New developments in molecular orthopaedics, sports medicine, dermatology and aging
Dear delegates,
Welcome to the First International Symposium for Molecular Medicine held under the auspices of the Stiftung Molekulare Medizin (Molecular Medicine Foundation). Growing appreciation of the pathophysiological inter-relatedness of conditions previously considered apart, allows a single, short Symposium to cover topics as diverse as orthopaedics, sports medicine, dermatology and ageing. A few years ago, this grouping would not have been possible in any reasonable sense. But as our understanding of different diseases deepens, we begin to uncover the existence of common biological pathways. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the field of ageing, where an ability to address cellular senescence could lower the incidence of numerous diseases of old-age, including those to be discussed in this Symposium. Both human and veterinary medicine are represented on the programme, reflecting how these domains inform each other. With a diverse faculty drawn from 7 countries and 2 continents, the symposium promises to be both informative and enjoyable.
